An article from undercurrentnews states that Oceanian state Papua New Guinea (PNG), in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, has opted to maintain the requirement for its purse seine tuna vessels to carry observers. according to the site, the requirement has been suspended for the entire region
Marcelo Hidalgo(FIA-PNG sustainability director) told Undercurrentnews that Fishing Industry Association of PNG and National Fishery Authority aims to lead on compliance with the Marine Stewardship Council's standards though the association just recently obtained its certification.
The temporary suspension imposed by the MSC which should have ended July 31 has been extended till October 31.
