SUSTAINABLE SOURCE

Tuna fish caught by our Tuna fleet member comes from a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified tuna fishery, see the FIA PNG MSC tuna certification link.

TUNA SPECIES AND STOCK STATUS

FIA PNG Tuna Fishing companies members target and catch only tuna coming from tuna stocks in a healthy status. The three main tuna commercial species:​​​

  • Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis)

  • Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares)

  • Bigeye Tuna (Thunnus obesus)
     

THE GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION

Our tuna catches come from the FAO fishing area 71. Our FIA PNG MSC tuna fishery certification includes PNG archipelagic zones, Economic Exclusive zones, PNA signatories EEZ, and WCPFC fishing grounds.

​Our tuna fleet uses purse seines of all types.

MONITORING

The National Fisheries Authority places observers onboard each of our fleet. There is 100% observer coverage onboard, and our FIA PNG MSC fishing trips also link the NFA observer code/name to demonstrate full compliance.

FIA PNG office does not own any Tuna Purse Seiner. Our Tuna fleet members’ fishing vessel names are listed in the MSC tuna fishery public certificate, here in this link.
