OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
FIA PNG office joined forces with the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) to enhance the level of compliance of the Papua New Guinea Artisanal and Small Scale Fisheries with the intent to:
Improve the PNG NFA Small-Scale Fisheries Management Plan
To add value to a commodity with an exclusive market
To improve local prices and local work conditions for small-scale workers (divers, collectors, and catchers)
We, together, are committed to investing in continuous improvement, voluntary, programs, credible technical considerations, due diligence processes, and fishery research to achieve the conditions of the MSC standard.
We have also engaged research centers and academia to improve our decision-making based on sciences and also improve our fishing practices.
WHAT IS AN MSC ACTION PLAN (CAP)
Developing the MSC Client Action Plan is a key step in the MSC fishery certification process. The Client Action Plan lists the activities that will help the fishery meet the deficiencies identified in the MSC assessment and prioritizes activities identified in the MSC fishery standard conditions raised during the full assessment.
The FIA PNG Client Action Plan includes:

A description of the actions that will be implemented by the FIA PNG and their members, and other parties (e.g.: BFAR and NFA) to achieve milestones and conditions.

Roles and responsibilities for implementing and completing actions.

The specified timeframe within which the conditions and milestones will be addressed.

The outputs will be provided to the assessment team to demonstrate that milestones are achieved and progress towards meeting conditions is being made.
FIA PNG has set up a Technical Working Group, the members come from, the NFA, the fishery, and processing sites; the aim is to provide support in the decision-making process and CAP implementation to improve the fishing practices at the fishery to ensure that the natural resources will be available for the next generation
