In a major stride toward ethical fishing practices, the Aquatic Life Institute has released a groundbreaking Tuna Welfare Guide—a resource designed to elevate the standards of how tuna are treated across global fisheries.

The guide provides science-based recommendations to minimize suffering and enhance handling practices during capture, transport, and slaughter. It’s part of a broader mission to integrate animal welfare into seafood sustainability frameworks, influencing both policy and industry behavior.

This initiative reflects a growing awareness that sustainability isn’t just about preserving fish stocks—it’s also about how we treat the animals themselves. With this guide, the Aquatic Life Institute is asking the fishing industry to rethink its practices and embrace a more compassionate approach to seafood production.
