FIA PNG spoke at the Sustainable Seafood Summit 2026, organised by Seafood Legacy in Tokyo, Japan

Last week, our COO Marcelo Hidalgo attended two important events in Tokyo, Japan. The Ethical Tuna Collaboration workshop and the Sustainable Seafood Summit 2026, organised by Seafood Legacy.

Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions (CASS), the convenor of the responsible seafood movement and also of the Ethical Tuna Collaboration. With more than 225 groups from around the world, CASS is transforming the way seafood is produced, purchased, and consumed–to protect our ocean and the people who depend on it. CASS connects Asian organisations and companies with North America, Europe, and other global partners to build relationships, share information, and work together to create change.

Insightful days last week at the TSSS, sharing one of the FIA PNG responsible Sourcing pillars: Traceability.

Some great contributions on how our tuna fleet controls traceability, fishing trip by fishing trip, complying with the GDST Key Data Elements and sharing the Vessel Monitoring System in almost real time with Global Fishing Watch were explained in detail. It was a lovely opportunity to reconnect and discuss topics in-person with seafood colleagues and look for collaboration in joint projects with research centres too.

FIA PNG was privileged to be given the stage for presentations and discussions on End-to-End Traceability for Trust and Integrity together with three more speakers - not only as a 'topic' of sustainability discussion, but sharing their experience, lessons learned and what the next step will be.

Our thanks to Seafood Legacy and Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions for the opportunity to share our traceability Journey that started in 2018.
