The Fishing Industry Association (PNG) Inc. (FIA PNG) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Heritage Hotel in Manila, Philippines, in accordance with its Constitution.
The Annual General Meeting 2025, brought together representatives from our members, including: Trimarine, Win Far Fishery Group, Frabelle Fishing, RD Tuna Fishing, Bluecatch Corporation, Trans-Pacific Journey, TSP Marine Industries, Frabelle PNG, IFC, Majestic, Nambawan, Starcki Venture Corp., FCF Co. Ltd, Fairwell Fishing, Frabelle PNG Ltd, and Domingo Teng Fishing Industries. Mr Sylvester Barth Pokajam, the President and Chairman of FIA PNG, presided over the meeting, marking the eighth AGM he has chaired since assuming the position in 2017.
As stipulated in the Constitution, the agenda for the annual general meeting included:
Receiving the Management Committee’s report, along with the statement of income and expenditure, assets and liabilities, as well as mortgages, charges, and securities relating to the association’s property for the preceding financial year.
Reviewing the auditor’s report on the books and accounts for the prior financial
year
Electing members to the Management Committee.
FIA PNG Responsible Sourcing Policy update – RSP due diligence
During the meeting, members adopted the FIA PNG financial audit report (statement of income and expenditure) for the year 2024 and approved the administration budget for 2026. Members also reached a consensus to keep the existing Executive Management Committee in place for 2024.
A motion was unanimously passed to elect the following individuals as members of the FIA PNG Executive Management Committee for 2024:
Sylvester Barth Pokajam - President & Chairman
Dale Sacay of Frabelle PNG Ltd - Vice-President
Fabian Chow - Honorary Treasurer
Donald Papaol - Executive Secretary / Executive Manager
Marcelo Hidalgo - Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Pokajam expressed his gratitude for the support and trust placed in the Executive Management Committee by the members, affirming their mandate to manage the affairs of FIA PNG and its members throughout 2026.
Marcelo Hidalgo, the COO of FIA PNG, provided updates on the progress and status of the Responsible Sourcing Policy. He also informed members about more than 14 ongoing projects that FIA PNG and its members are engaged in, collaborating with NGOs, scientific organizations, and sustainable financial institutions to facilitate learning and development.
In closing, Mr. Pokajam acknowledged the support of the National Fisheries Authority, stating, “The Fishing Industry Association works in unison with the Government of Papua New Guinea through the National Fisheries Authority to support and promote government policies aimed at ensuring our fisheries and marine resources are well-managed and remain sustainable for our current and future generations.”
