The BlueRights International Conference on Protection of Health at Sea brought together
maritime professionals, health experts, policymakers, and stakeholders in Budva, Montenegro, to address pressing issues related to the health and well-being of seafarers. The congress focused on improving occupational health standards, enhancing safety protocols, and fostering international cooperation to protect workers’ rights at sea.
Key topics included mental health support, prevention of occupational hazards, compliance with international maritime health regulations, and the implementation of innovative health and safety practices aboard vessels.

The conference emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments and unions to create safer, healthier working environments for maritime workers worldwide. It concluded with a commitment to advancing policies and initiatives aligned with international conventions and sustainable development goals.
Our Chief Operating Officer, Marcelo Hidalgo, delivered a presentation titled “Ensuring Social Responsibility in Tuna Fishing: Lessons Learned from the Pacific – Papua New Guinea.”
This was a valuable opportunity to update policymakers on how the private sector is advancing due diligence and certification efforts to showcase compliance that goes beyond mere ratification requirements.

The presentation was very well received and sparked such positive interest that Marcelo was subsequently invited to take part in two additional events focused on human and labour rights at sea, hosted by academic institutions and government bodies.
Conference Highlights:
Inspiring keynote speakers, expert panels, and practitioners’ roundtables.
Networking opportunities and social events, including exploring Budva,
The Bay of Kotor, and the beauty of Montenegro
Collaborative discussions shaping future BlueRights initiatives
